Understanding European Values in Westminster

Westminster Charity to Develop New Ways of Understanding Europe

Whilst BREXIT dominates UK politics, the St. Vincent’s Family Project, based just a stones throw from Parliament, is pioneering an innovative new programme to develop new ways of understanding the EU’s history and its common values.

St Vincent’s or SVFP is working in partnership with ANCI Italy and CEPESE Portugal to explore the themes of identity, migration history and a place in society. Using creative media such as art, drama, film and photography, SVFP’s team of qualified therapists will work with young people aged 16 – 25 and their families in creating a multidimensional European Identity.

Amanda Dudley, Lead Therapist at SVFP, said, “the Creative Arts are a powerful tool for expressing ourselves both individually and collectively and can be useful in providing a nonverbal narrative and an alternative voice where words might initially fail. We will be using the creative arts to support young people and their families to explore potentially sensitive subjects relating to migration stories and social integration.”

Albie Stadtmiller, Director of SVFP said, “I am delighted that we have been able to secure the funding for the ‘You2TellEU’ project. The ‘You2TellEU’ project allows SVFP to collaborate with its two partners to explore these complex and difficult themes with young people, many of whom are second generation, Eastern European immigrants.”

The final part of the project will be a ‘You2TellEU’ London event in August 2017, showcasing the work produced by the participants.
